Peter's core belief was that by collaborating and supporting one another, designers could do better work and more good in the world. In 1959, as a member of SIAD's international steering committee, he proposed the creation of an international design organisation to do for graphic design what ICSID had achieved for industrial design. It took another four years of foresight and dedicated effort for his vision to be realised and ICOGRADA was formed in 1963.

In 1964, Peter became Chairman and launched the first ICOGRADA International Student Project, which led to the Signs and Symbols Commission and the development of international sign standards.

He served as President, Vice President, Secretary General, and as the Liaison to UNESCO (which led to both official recognition followed by a consulting status). He was also Vice President of the Chartered Society of Designers, and Vice President of the Syndicat National des Graphistes.

In spite of the demands of his practice, he remained a tireless ambassador for the design profession. He would always find time to listen and be willing to help tackle problems with vigour and a sharp mind.
